The Doozy Story
Doozy founders Bruce Langer and Greg Brayford have known each other for over 35 years.
When Bruce moved to Ottawa from Toronto in 1997, he invited Greg over for dinner and while at the dinner table Greg noticed this large, funky looking candle and asked Bruce where it came from. Bruce replied that he made it many years ago. Greg asked him to teach him how to make one as he was a big candle burner and was tired of the poor quality of the candles that he was burning. In a nutshell, this is how Bougie Doozy Candle was born!
The first 10 Doozy candles were made in Greg’s apartment on Elgin Street, Ottawa. Only one size of candle was made, and were given to family and friends. They loved them. After such a good response, Doozy started to sell their unique candles in Ottawa’s Byward Market. They haven’t looked back since.
After vending for a couple of years, it was time to have a more permanent location- the first Doozy boutique opened in 1999 on Bronson Ave. in Ottawa’s “Glebe” neighborhood. The building was the original location of the Ottawa Folklore Centre.
Doozy relocated to Chelsea, Quebec in the fall of 2003, where it became Bougie Doozy Candle. Its current location combine both the Doozy Candle Factory and Artisan Boutique.
